Transport wheelchair rental in Dublin
Pushed by a companion. 9.8 kg (21.6 lb) total, small wheels, folds flat: the easiest chair to lift into a car.
Available to rent from Emerald Rentals in Dublin, the Rehasense Icon 35 LX Transit is a lightweight transport wheelchair, pushed by a companion rather than by the user. It weighs 9.8 kg (21.6 lb), folds side-to-side with a half-folding backrest to just 27 cm (11 in) wide, and has a carry handle, so it lifts easily into a taxi or car boot. Padded seat and back upholstery, height-adjustable lift-off armrests, swing-away leg rests, hand brakes on the push handles, tipping levers for kerbs and solid puncture-proof wheels make it practical indoors and out. Suitable for users up to 120 kg (265 lb).
No, it's designed to be pushed by a companion. The 14-inch rear wheels have no push rims, and the brakes are hand levers on the push handles, out of reach of the person sitting in it. If you'd like to push yourself, our Ultralight Standard Wheelchair has large rear wheels with push rims and is almost as easy to fold.
It weighs 9.8 kg (21.6 lb), and a little less with the leg rests lifted off. It folds side-to-side and the backrest folds down, leaving a package of about 65 × 74 × 27 cm (26 × 29 × 11 in) that fits comfortably in a standard Dublin taxi or hire-car boot. Lift it by the frame or the carry handle under the seat, never by the armrests or leg rests.
This chair is suitable for users up to 120 kg (265 lb).
Our chairs have a 45 cm (17.7 in) wide seat that is 40 cm (15.7 in) deep, with a seat height of about 44–49 cm (17–19 in). The armrests adjust between 18 and 25 cm (7–10 in) and lift off for sideways transfers, and the leg rests swing out of the way or lift off completely.

“I traveled to Dublin with my 79-year-old Mom. She struggles walking far distances, so I rented a walker for her, but changed my mind the second day after assessing the surroundings better and requested a swap for a wheelchair. I reached out to Emerald Rentals, and David was very helpful and able to get a wheelchair delivered for us. The delivery to our hotel was very efficient. We rented a collapsible wheelchair which worked out perfect. David stayed in touch with us throughout our stay to make sure everything was going well or if we had any questions. Everyone was very helpful and accommodating everywhere we went during our stay. The train system was easy to navigate with the wheelchair. The Irish Rail employees were helpful with boarding and exiting the train. Passengers on the Luas were extremely friendly and helpful and would offer their seats to my Mom. Some of the businesses we visited during our stay were Guinness, Jameson, Fitzsimons Temple Bar, O’Shea’s Merchant, Celtic Nights Dinner & Show, and Bad Ass Cafe. All of the places were very accommodating to us with the wheelchair and friendly employees. Overall, our experience was great and I highly recommend David and Emerald Rentals if you have any wheelchair/walker needs while visiting Dublin.”

Reservar en motion4rent→Haznos una pregunta primeroThere is a hand brake under each push handle. Squeeze both levers to slow down, like bicycle brakes, and flick the small red catch down to park. Because only the person pushing can brake, park both brakes before letting go of the chair, and every time someone gets in or out.
Yes, with the companion's help. Just above each rear wheel there is a tipping lever: press it down with your foot and pull the handles gently back to lift the front wheels onto a kerb. Go down kerbs backwards, rear wheels first. Never lean on the push handles to lift the front wheels, as that bends them. Our step-by-step guide shows each move on a 3D model.
Yes, it's built for indoor and outdoor use, and the solid tyres can't go flat. The rear wheels are small, though, so they catch more easily on cobblestones and tram tracks than a self-propelled chair's: go slowly, cross tram tracks at a right angle, and pick a smoother street where you can. For stairs, two adults should carry the chair by its frame; never use it on an escalator.
No. Like most folding wheelchairs it isn't crash-tested, so it can't be used as a seat in a vehicle. Transfer to the car seat, then fold the chair into the boot.
We deliver to your hotel, Airbnb or rental address in Dublin, ideally the night before you check in. If your accommodation has a reception desk we can leave the chair there for you. On your last day, leave it with reception or at the agreed spot and we collect it. We deliver and collect every day, from early morning into the evening, and we're flexible: tell us what suits you and we'll do our best to accommodate it.
For now, bookings are taken through our partner motion4rent using the button on this page. Direct booking on emeraldrentals.ie is coming soon. If you have a question first, message us on WhatsApp or through the contact page.
Yes. Every chair is sanitised between rentals and mechanically checked: brakes, tyres, the folding mechanism and the leg rest and armrest catches. The seat cover is removable and washed.
Get in touch straight away. We're a small Dublin team, so the person who delivered your chair is the one you'll talk to. Within Dublin we'll swap or fix the chair, typically within a few hours during operating hours.
Because the booking currently lives on the partner platform, their cancellation and refund terms apply. See our cancellation policy page for the details and links.
